George Washington (Painting)

Description

Presenting himself, in full military regalia, at The Second Continental Congress, Washington impressed John Adams, and several others, with his military prowess and leadership qualities. When it came time to nominate someone to head The Continental Army, he was the natural choice. He’d seen service in The French and Indian Wars. American came through eight years of war, fighting Great Britain for its liberty. Washington was regarded as ‘The First Citizen of the Country’. George Washington, ‘The Indispensable Man’ was the unanimous choice as our first President. No one else even came close. John Adams was chosen as Vice President. As President, Washington led the newly formed United States through unprecedented challenges; working to create a stable economy and a solid form of governance; steering us clear of European conflicts, and setting precedence of policy and deportment for future Chief Executives to follow. After two terms, he gave up power, and was glad to retire to his beloved Mount Vernon.
