His work was crucial to our gaining a Treaty of Alliance in 1778, which gained French support for American Independence after the American victory at The Battle of Saratoga, in 1777. Munitions and the cost of Naval support so bankrupted France, that in 1789, they had their own revolution. The populous did away with their King and Queen, thus ending The French Monarchy, for the time being.
